Created in 2021 by Hannah Koob (Germany) and Nuno Silva (Portugal), [uan] duo is a multifaceted chamber music group.
Both based in the Netherlands, they come together to share their passion for music and to actively participate in the colorful and vibrant European classical music scene. In only two years this saxophone duo already collaborated with several artists and composers resulting in four new music pieces, all commissioned by [uan] duo, therefore contributing to the short list of saxophone duo’s.
Among others, [uan] duo has already performed in het Concertgebouw-Amsterdam, and has been guest player of NPO klassiek for several times.
Besides the Netherlands, they have been playing concerts in Portugal, Germany and Switzerland already, and released their debut album ORIGINALS in January 2024 containing only commissioned works!
Known for their strong stage presence and enthusiasm, they seek to take their listeners to different parts of the world; from an intimacy that the saxophone duo inherently offers, to timbres that will remind the listener to that of an orchestra.
After all, their desire is simple but important: coming together to make great music.
German Saxophonist Hannah Koob was described as a musician with "a warm and singing sound even in the extreme registers, the ability to create long vocal passages, a flexible tone-colour and, a very accomplished technique".
In 2016, she moved to Tilburg, Netherlands, where she studied at the Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kusnten with Andreas van Zoelen.
For Hannah, one of the most important responsibilities for the future of the classical saxophone is playing new music. There are so many unexplored avenues for the instrument which is why she specialized in modern repertoire.
Portuguese saxophonist Nuno Silva completed his Master of Music degree at the Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kusnten (NL), and his Music Teaching degree at the University in Aveiro (PT).
Passionate about performing arts and chamber music, Nuno Silva has developed many different interdisciplinary and intercultural projects in collaboration with other artists.
He currently teaches as a private instructor in his own saxophone studio, developing both musical as well as pedagogical activities between Portugal and the Netherlands.
Nuno Silva is supported by Henri-Selmer Paris
